It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the first dual outlet blow-off valve hit the scene. Back in 1998, when the world was still figuring out what a smartphone was, GFB's John Adrian had a problem. His new WRX was stalling like crazy because of an atmosphere-venting BOV. Frustrated, he decided enough was enough and created the Hybrid—a game changer that became the flagship for Go Fast Bits.
This valve isn’t just another pretty face. The Hybrid features two venting ports that work in harmony. The recirc port opens first, followed by the atmo port, which means no more annoying backfiring or stalling, especially for those of us with a MAF sensor. And let’s be real, you still get that iconic blow-off sound when you’re pushing your car to its limits. It’s a perfect blend of performance and fun.
What’s really cool is how influential this design has been. Almost every other BOV brand on the market has taken a page from GFB’s playbook. The Hybrid paved the way for innovations like the Respons TMS with its venting bias adjustment and the Deceptor Pro, which even lets you adjust the venting electronically.
After a bit of a hiatus, the Hybrid is making a comeback, and it’s just in time to celebrate its 20th birthday. To top it off, it snagged a Global Media Award at the 2017 SEMA show, standing out among 3,000 entries. That says something about its impact in the turbo world!
The new version keeps the same staged venting outlets as the original but adds some serious versatility. You can configure it for full recirc, full atmosphere, or a sweet 50/50 mix—whatever suits your ride. Plus, there’s a wide range of direct bolt-on kits available for popular vehicles, making it easy to get this piece of history into your car without breaking the bank.
