S&B Filters 20-2934-03 Pre-Filter

The S&B Filters 20-2934-03 Pre-Filter is specifically designed to fit 4.5 x 6 inch and 4 x 6 inch air filters. This pre-filter adds a layer of protection and style to your air intake system, ensuring optimal performance.

Construction and Material

Manufactured by Outerwears, this pre-filter features a proprietary polyester mesh with uniform micron openings, allowing it to filter debris down to 0.005 inches. The mesh is treated with a hydrophobic water-repellent process, ensuring that it remains effective in various weather conditions. It is UV resistant, shatterproof in freezing temperatures, and can withstand heat up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Durability Features

The 20-2934-03 Pre-Filter is designed with puncture resistance and elasticity, allowing the material to return to its original shape even after impact. The manufacturing process includes a welded seam for added strength, and reinforced industrial-grade thread minimizes potential failure points. The top seam uses specialized thread and cording to enhance durability, making this pre-filter a reliable choice for performance applications.

Water Repellency

This pre-filter is engineered to prevent water from entering the engine during heavy rain or when driving through puddles. While it effectively repels water, it is important to note that it is not waterproof. If submerged, water can still enter the intake system.

Maintenance and Longevity

The water repellency feature lasts between 6 to 12 months, depending on driving conditions and cleaning frequency. To check the effectiveness of the water repellency, spray the pre-filter with water. If the water beads off, the repellency is still intact. If water penetrates, it’s time for a replacement.

Retreating the Pre-Filter

Retreating the pre-filter with aftermarket water repellent sprays is not recommended. The factory-applied hydrophobic treatment is specifically designed to maintain airflow while preventing water ingestion. Adding an aftermarket solution could negatively affect airflow, resulting in a decrease in horsepower and fuel efficiency.

  • Factory water repellency cannot be duplicated with aftermarket sprays.
  • No negative airflow impact compared to non-water repellent pre-filters.
