Girodisc Front Titanium Pad Shields for Porsche 996 Turbo | Turbo S - TS-0991-4

You know, one of the biggest headaches when you're pushing your car to the limit is brake fluid boiling. It’s frustrating to feel that pedal go straight to the floor when you need it most. What happens is pretty straightforward: heat from the rotors and pads gets transferred right into the brake fluid through the caliper pistons. And when that fluid boils, it releases air—air that shouldn’t be there. That’s when you start losing your stopping power, and trust me, that’s a real buzzkill on track days.

Most production cars just aren’t built for the kind of heat you encounter on the track. They lack the cooling ducts and high-end materials that true racing machines have. That’s why you’ll often see racing calipers equipped with titanium pistons. Titanium is a game-changer; it has low thermal conductivity, which means it doesn’t transfer heat well. So, it keeps your brake fluid cooler, giving you that reliable pedal feel when you need it.

Now, if you’re looking to mitigate that boiling issue, Girodisc has a solid solution. They’ve designed a thin titanium shim that fits snugly between the pad back and the pistons. This little piece of engineering magic acts as a barrier, preventing heat from messing with your brake fluid. Just to give you an idea of how effective this is, let’s look at some thermal conductivity ratings: Titanium 6AL-4V comes in at just 6.7 W/mk, while steel is at 52 W/mk and aluminum is even worse at 130 W/mk. That’s a significant difference! Using these shims can be a smart move, especially if you’re planning on hitting the track hard or multiple times. It’s a cheap insurance policy against that dreaded loss of braking power.
