If you're in the market for a helmet that balances comfort and functionality, the Pyrotect Carbon Fiber Sportmax DOT Helmet might just be what you need. Designed with a mid-air fit, this helmet gives you that extra clearance you want while you're buckled up in the car. Plus, it’s got the option to be wired up with PCI’s exclusive communication components, which is a pretty sweet perk if you’re into chatting with your crew while you’re out on the track or trail.

Now, let’s talk fit. This part is crucial. A helmet that doesn’t fit right can be a real hazard. So, take a moment to measure your head about an inch above your eyebrows, wrapping around to the back where you get the biggest measurement. Remember, these helmets tend to break in a bit, so it’s best to get one that’s snug but still comfy. You want it tight enough to stay put but not so tight that you’re counting the seconds until you can take it off.

  • Wiring: It comes with PCI Elite Wiring featuring a black 4-pin connector, perfect for use with Elite and Comlink X intercom systems. So, if you’re planning to have some serious conversations while driving, you’re covered.
  • Sound Quality: The setup includes a microphone and large, high-watt speakers, plus an H2NO water-resistant pigtail. This means you can enjoy clear audio even if the weather decides to turn on you.
  • Safety Certification: This helmet is DOT approved, making it a solid choice for recreational use. Just a heads up—it's not meant for racing, so keep that in mind if you’re hitting the track.
  • Comfort Features: It comes with a dust skirt to keep the grit out, which is always a plus when you’re out in the dirt.
  • Youth Fit: If you’re looking for something for the younger crowd, this helmet weighs in at just 3 lbs when wired. It also includes cheek pads that allow you to resize from Youth Small to Youth Large as they grow, which is handy.
  • Midair Raceair Fitting: This feature ensures you have that extra space and comfort, making it easier to focus on the drive.

All in all, the Pyrotect SportMax Midair Carbon Fiber DOT Helmet is a solid pick if you want a reliable, comfortable helmet that won’t break the bank. Just make sure you get the sizing right, and you’ll be good to go!

What is PCI Race Radios?

PCI Race Radios has been the leader in off-road and racing communications since 1972. The company takes pride in its extensive field testing, competitive prices, unparalleled customer service, and simplified packages that make communications easy with unmatched support even after the sale. With more than 45 years of experience in the off-road racing industry, PCI Race Radios develops and tests all of its own products. The brand has a full-service technical repair shop at its headquarters in Long Beach, California, and provides trackside, mobile services to its desert enthusiasts at off-road races. PCI Race Radios supports the ASA, CORVA, ORBA, and the San Diego Off-Road Coalition. It also sponsors District 37, SCORE, SNORE, MDR, MORE, CORR, BITD, and provides desert racers with the Weatherman Relay Service.

PCI Race Radios is a family-owned company that is dedicated to taking the time to both “race and play.” The company tests its products on dirt bikes, motorcycles, quads, rock crawlers, race cars, Raptors, RZRs, Mavericks, and boats. It can, therefore, thoroughly understand consumers’ needs and offer hands-on recommendations from experience.

Who is Behind PCI Race Radios?

PCI Race Radios was started in 1972 when Bob Steinberger put communications in the vehicles of Bill Stroppe, Joe MacPherson and Walker Evans. At the 1974 Mint 400, Steinberger sent up three weather balloons with 500 feet of coax attached to them. It was that day when the first successful radio relay from a pit was made. Since then, Bob’s iconic status has spanned through nearly half a century of work with his communications brand, PCI Race Radios.

Bob Steinberger passed away in 2017, handing over the company to his son Scott, who has been racing since 1983. Scott Steinberger understands what goes into racing and the importance of quality (communication) products that help get you to the finish line.
