If you're looking to kick your off-road experience up a notch, the Klim R1 Fresh Air TRAX PCI Helmet is where it’s at. Seriously, this helmet is making waves in the desert, and for good reason. Plus, it’s DOT approved and ECE 22-05 certified, so you know it meets safety standards for recreational use (though it's not meant for racing, just a heads up).

One of my favorite features is the internal drop-down sun visor. It’s a game changer when the sun is blazing down and you need to shield your eyes. And don’t worry about visibility; the EZ-Wipe optically-clear face shield ensures you have a crystal-clear view of the road ahead. Plus, it comes with a dust skirt to keep the grit out, which is a lifesaver in those really dusty conditions.

On the tech side, this helmet is wired for Trax Stereo Intercom Systems with a 5-conductor grey plug, complete with a custom PCI Trax setup that includes a microphone and large, high-watt speakers. You’ll be jamming out or chatting with your buddies without missing a beat. And if you’re worried about moisture, the Trax H2NO water-resistant pigtail has got you covered.

Weighing in at just 3.8 lbs when wired with the fresh air system, it’s surprisingly light for all the features packed in. The matte black finish gives it a sleek look, too. Who is Behind PCI Race Radios?

PCI Race Radios was started in 1972 when Bob Steinberger put communications in the vehicles of Bill Stroppe, Joe MacPherson and Walker Evans. At the 1974 Mint 400, Steinberger sent up three weather balloons with 500 feet of coax attached to them. It was that day when the first successful radio relay from a pit was made. Since then, Bob’s iconic status has spanned through nearly half a century of work with his communications brand, PCI Race Radios.

Bob Steinberger passed away in 2017, handing over the company to his son Scott, who has been racing since 1983. Scott Steinberger understands what goes into racing and the importance of quality (communication) products that help get you to the finish line.
