Radium Engineering 8An Orb Fpd-R Swivel

Radium Engineering 8AN Orb FPD-R Swivel

When it comes to fuel injectors, the opening and closing action creates pressure pulses in the fuel rail. This can sometimes lead to unstable fuel pressure, which is where a fuel pulse damper (FPD) comes into play. By using an FPD, you can achieve a safe and consistent rail pressure. The internal diaphragm of the FPD works hard to absorb those oscillating pulses, stabilizing the fuel pressure across the RPM range. This can be especially helpful in reducing idle surge, particularly if you're using high flow injectors. Plus, if you've ever experienced those frustrating "stumbling" moments due to erratic lean air/fuel ratio spikes, an FPD can help smooth things out, making tuning a lot easier.

Versatile Installation

One of the great things about fuel pulse dampers is their flexibility in installation. They can be mounted at any angle, even upside down! Depending on your fuel system setup, you might find that using multiple dampers is beneficial, or that placing one on the return line can make a noticeable difference.

Why Choose Radium FPDs?

Radium Engineering stands out with its FPDs because they offer the flexibility of using common fittings. Their design includes a vacuum/boost reference port, ensuring that your fuel pulse damper performs optimally, even under elevated fuel pressures. This feature is particularly crucial for boosted systems utilizing a 1:1 rising rate fuel pressure regulator.

FPD-R vs. FPD-XR

When deciding between the FPD-R (green top) and the FPD-XR (black top), the main difference lies in their size. The FPD-R is slightly shorter, making it a fantastic choice for tighter spaces.

Choosing the Right Damper

Both the FPD-R and FPD-XR have specific base "static" fuel pressure requirements:

  • FPD-R base pressure requirement: 40 - 70 psi (static)
  • FPD-XR base pressure requirement: 40 - 105 psi (static)

Base pressure is measured when the fuel pump is running, without a vacuum line connected to the regulator. This is key to ensuring your setup works smoothly.

Product Features

  • Male Fitting Selection:
    • a. The 8AN ORB versions seal using a FKM O-ring.
    • b. The 3/8" NPT variations seal with tapered pipe threads.
  • Vacuum Port Orientation:
    • a. The latest 8AN ORB dampers (20-0776) feature a swivel design, allowing the vacuum port to be rotated 360 degrees even after tightening.
    • b. The 20-0178 and 20-0179 models utilize tapered threads (NPT), enabling you to position the vacuum port exactly where you want it.
  • This product is compatible with all fuel types, including alcohol blends like E85.

Included in the Package

  • Anodized and laser-engraved aluminum top, designated as R=range or XR=extra range
  • Anodized aluminum body with male threads, available in 8AN ORB or 3/8" NPT
  • Stainless steel hardware
  • Rubber vacuum hose, 4mm ID
  • Vacuum hose Y-fitting

Important Considerations

  • The ranges mentioned above refer to base static fuel pressures. Any dynamic fuel pressure created by a rising-rate FPR outside these ranges is acceptable, provided the base static fuel pressure is set correctly and the vacuum/boost reference line is connected.

Note

  • This product should not be used on the low-pressure side of mechanical fuel pumps, including direct injection engines.
