Understanding the Radium Engineering 8AN Orb FPD-XR Swivel

The Radium Engineering 8AN Orb FPD-XR Swivel is a game-changer when it comes to managing fuel pressure in your vehicle. The operation of fuel injectors can create pressure pulses in the fuel rail, leading to unstable fuel pressure. To keep things running smoothly, a fuel pulse damper (FPD) is often a must-have. The internal diaphragm of the FPD absorbs those pesky oscillating pulses, helping to stabilize fuel pressure across the entire RPM range. This not only helps with idle surges'especially if you're using high-flow injectors'but also addresses those annoying lean air/fuel ratio spikes that can cause what's often referred to as "stumbling."

Choosing the Right Damper: FPD-R vs. FPD-XR

When selecting between the FPD-R (green top) and the FPD-XR (black top), consider your space constraints. The FPD-R is slightly shorter, making it ideal for tighter spots. Both models have distinct base static fuel pressure requirements:

  • FPD-R: 40 - 70 psi (static)
  • FPD-XR: 40 - 105 psi (static)

Base pressure is the fuel pressure measured when the fuel pump is running without a vacuum line connected to the regulator.

  • Male Fitting Selection:
    • 8AN ORB versions seal with a FKM O-ring.
    • 3/8" NPT variations seal with tapered pipe threads.
  • Vacuum Port Orientation:
    • The latest 8AN ORB dampers (20-0777) swivel to allow for 360-degree clocking of the vacuum port.
    • For models 20-0178 and 20-0179, the vacuum port can be adjusted to the desired location thanks to tapered threads (NPT).
  • This product is compatible with all fuel types, including alcohol blends like E85.

Important Considerations

  • The ranges mentioned are for base static fuel pressures only. Any dynamic fuel pressure created by a rising-rate FPR outside of these ranges is acceptable, provided the base static fuel pressure is set within the specified limits and the vacuum/boost reference line is connected.

Note

  • This damper should not be used on the low-pressure side of mechanical fuel pumps, including direct injection engines.

Warranty

All Radium Engineering brand products are subject to a 1 Year Limited Warranty from the date of original purchase. If a product fails, it will be repaired or replaced at Radium Engineering's option when it has been determined by Radium Engineering to have failed due to defects in materials or workmanship. Warranty claims must be made by the original purchaser. If the purchase was made from a retailer other than radiumauto.com, please contact the place of purchase for further assistance.

This warranty is limited to repair or replacement of the merchandise only and shall not, in no event, exceed the original purchase price. Radium Engineering will not be held responsible for secondary or consequential damages or costs (including labor, towing, etc.) incurred due to failure of this product. Standard ground shipping is used for all warranty transactions. Expedited shipping is available, but the cost difference must be paid by the end user in advance of the shipment.

Warranty claims must ship pre-paid to Radium Engineering for review. Claims must include the failed part(s), RMA number, and original proof of purchase. If the claim is missing any of these items, it may be rejected and returned to sender. Product must be received by Radium Engineering within 14 days of RMA's issue date. Please note that before Radium Engineering can issue an RMA for any product, it is first necessary for the installer or end user to contact [email protected] to discuss the problem. Most issues can be resolved via email. Under no circumstances should a product be returned or a RMA requested before the above process transpires.

This warranty applies to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable. Improper use, installation, modification, abuse, or unauthorized repairs or alterations voids this warranty. Credit for defective products will be issued pending inspection by Radium Engineering. This warranty does not extend to third party products often used in Radium Engineering products, such as fuel pumps, turbochargers, or any other non-Radium Engineering brand products.
