If you're looking to give your ride a serious boost without sacrificing drivability, the TSP 228R camshaft might just be your ticket. This cam is a favorite among enthusiasts for a reason—it strikes that sweet balance between power and everyday usability. With specs like 228/228 duration and a lift of .600/.600, you're looking at a cam that can deliver a solid punch while still being friendly enough for daily driving.

What really sets the 228R apart is its ability to add about 5-7 more horsepower compared to the 224R camshaft. That’s not just talk; dyno tests have shown gains of around 45-50 rwhp, which is pretty impressive for a cam that fits comfortably into a daily driver. Just keep in mind, if you’re running an automatic, you're going to want a stall converter that’s larger than stock—aim for something around 3200 RPM or more to really feel the difference.

This cam is best suited for engines like the 5.7 and 6.0, and if you're thinking about compression ratios, shooting for 10.1:1 or higher is ideal. You’ll also need to upgrade your springs; either the Pac 1219 or TSP Double .660 valve springs will do the trick. The good news? It fits stock, untouched heads without any piston-to-valve clearance issues, although it’s always smart to double-check before installation.

In terms of performance, the operating RPM range is between 1800 and 6800, which means it’s got a nice broad power band. And while you don’t have to upgrade your rear gear, if you’re running an automatic, a minimum of 3.23 is recommended to really maximize performance. Once you’ve got it properly tuned, you’ll find it’s a great cam for daily driving—smooth, responsive, and ready to deliver when you need it.
