If you're looking to take your ride to the next level, the Texas Speed & Performance 438/441 C.I.D. LSx short-block is worth checking out. This isn't just any engine; it’s built around a brand-new GM Performance Parts LSx iron block, which is a solid foundation for whatever you want to throw at it.
When you order, you get a fully-assembled short-block, and you can choose between a 4.10" or 4.125" stroke crankshaft. The difference? A 4.10" stroke nets you 438 CID, while the 4.125" gives you a beefy 441 CID. You also get to pick your Wiseco pistons—either the 4.125" -2.8cc or -22cc sets—designed to work seamlessly with LS1, LS2, LS6, L92, LS3, and most aftermarket cylinder heads. So, whether you’re building a street cruiser or a track monster, you’ve got options.
Every TSP 441 LSx is going to come with a 4.125" bore piston set unless you specify otherwise. And if you want to customize your build further, you can choose from various connecting rods and crankshafts to fit your specific application. Plus, we make it easy by including the necessary oil and coolant plugs right in the block. If you’re planning to drop this engine into an LS1 vehicle, you might want to consider our optional conversion package. It comes with everything you need, like the LS2 timing cover and lifter trays, making the swap a breeze.
Now, if you’re putting this powerhouse into a 2006+ Corvette Z06, Grand Sport, or ZR1, don’t forget to check out the long-snout dry-sump crankshaft option. It’s crucial for those factory GM dry-sump oiling systems. Just a heads up, the factory GM dry-sump block doesn’t have a spot for an oil dipstick tube, so we’ve got dipstick plugs available if you need them.
One of the standout features of the GMPP LSx block is its ability to provide maximum clamping force for your cylinder heads, especially if you’re using aftermarket 6-bolt heads. Just keep in mind that if you’re planning on cranking up the boost or hitting it with nitrous, we suggest going with a 4.00" stroke crankshaft. It offers better pin placement and a thicker piston crown for those extreme situations. And if you’re in a hurry, we offer an expedite service to get your engine built and shipped in as little as five business days, depending on parts availability.
For those serious about power, we also offer an upgrade to 1/2" head studs. This includes ARP hardware and the necessary machine work, and it’s a must if you’re planning to run big nitrous shots or high boost. The PRC aftermarket casting cylinder heads are already set up to handle those larger bolt holes, so you’re covered there.
And here’s something that often gets overlooked: every TSP engine comes with 12 quarts of break-in oil at no extra cost. This isn’t just a gimmick; proper break-in oil is essential for sealing those rings against the cylinder walls when you start it up. Most regular engine oils lack the ZDDP additives needed for a proper break-in, so we’re all about making sure your new engine gets the best start possible. Once you’re through the break-in, we recommend switching to Driven Racing oil, specifically the HR2 conventional non-synthetic.
