If you're looking to take your ride to the next level, the Texas Speed & Performance 454 C.I.D. LSx short-block is where it’s at. Built on a solid foundation with a brand new GM Performance Parts LSx iron block, this engine isn't just about numbers—it's about the thrill of the drive. The standard setup comes fully assembled with a 4.125" stroke crankshaft, and you can pick between a 24X or 58X reluctor wheel to fit your needs.
Now let’s talk pistons. You’ll get a Wiseco 4.185" -2.8cc piston set, which is designed to work seamlessly with LS1, LS2, LS6, L92, LS3, and most aftermarket cylinder heads. That means you won’t have to worry about compatibility issues when you're swapping out parts. And just so you know, every TSP 454 LSx uses that 4.185" bore piston set unless you specify otherwise. If you're dreaming of a custom build, we've got you covered with various connecting rods and crankshaft options to match your specific application.
Every engine comes prepped with the essential oil and coolant plugs already installed, so you can dive right into your project. If you're planning to drop this beauty into an LS1 vehicle, consider our optional conversion package. It includes an LS2 timing cover with a camshaft position sensor, LS2 valley cover, lifter trays, and the timing set you’ll need, along with handy plug-and-play harness extensions for the camshaft position and knock sensor harnesses.
Thinking of cranking up the power? You can upgrade to 1/2" head studs, which come with ARP hardware and the necessary machine work. This is especially handy if you're using PRC aftermarket casting cylinder heads, which already have the larger bolt holes for those beefier studs.
If you’re eyeing a long-snout dry-sump crankshaft for factory GM dry-sump oiling, we’ve got that too—perfect for those installing in a 2006+ Corvette Z06, Grand Sport, or ZR1. Just a heads up: choosing a dry-sump crank means you’ll need to plug the dipstick hole on the LSx block, but we can provide that plug if you need it.
Now, a little caution: the GMPP LSx block is tough and can handle a lot of clamping force with those aftermarket 6-bolt cylinder heads. But if you're planning on pushing it with nitrous or big boost, I'd suggest sticking with a 4.00" stroke crankshaft. It helps with better pin placement and gives you a thicker crown on the pistons. For the 454 C.I.D. LSx, we recommend keeping nitrous to a max of 150 HP shot. And if you're in a hurry, we offer an expedited service to get your engine built and shipped in as little as five business days—just give us a shout for more info.
Every TSP engine ships with 12 quarts of break-in oil at no extra cost. Trust me, proper break-in oil is crucial. It helps with ring sealing and ensures everything runs smoothly right from the start. Most off-the-shelf oils don’t have the right ZDDP additives for a fresh engine, so we take that extra step to ensure your new TSP engine gets the best treatment. Once you’re done breaking it in, we recommend using Driven Racing oil, specifically the HR2 conventional non-synthetic.
